Programs & Services of the Fort Lee Alumni Chapter
of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Founders
Chapter Programs and Services
For the Noble Men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., our challenge to our Brothers, with no uncertainty, needs to be, “Brother, be all that you can be, but have not yet become. Brother, do all that you can do but have not yet done. Brother, reach how far as you can but have not reached. Brother, accomplish what you must, but have not yet.” -- Michael Edwards

Guide Right Program
The Fraternity began Guide Right, its national social out-reach program, in 1922. Today, National Guide Right programs provide programming, role models, mentors, and financial assistance for at risk youth in communities throughout the country.

In order to serve young men between the ages of 5 and 25, the mission of the Guide Right Committee is to promote goals, aims, and objectives of the fraternity, in a manner that is consistent to and appropriate for our targeted audiences; to uphold the original charge of Guide Right; and to incorporate the necessary tools which will enable us to adapt to today's changing landscape and environment.

The Chapter supports the two primary Guide Right activities. Brother Robinson, Chapter Guide Right Committee Chair, coaches a Christian Youth League basketball team that the Chapter supports by attending their games and sponsor the team’s achievement and awards banquet at the end of the season. The Chapter volunteered time and provided financial support to the Lamar Taylor Basketball Tournament, The Chapter also support Richmond’s Student Athlete Association’s High School College Combine. Brother Shedrick McCall, past Chapter Vice Polemarch, spearheaded the event of 80+ high school seniors competing and receiving high school scholarship offers on the spot.

Sponsorship
The Chapter supports and provides opportunities for undergraduate Kappa leadership training to the Alpha Phi Chapter. The Chapter hosted its Charter Day Program which provided a historical depiction of the History of Kappa, History of the Fort Lee Alumni Chapter (FLAC) and Memoirs of a 50 Year Kappa by Brother David O. Lee at which members of the Alpha Phi Chapter supported by attending. The FLAC also supported the Alpha Phi Chapter during the VSU Homecoming Tri-City Kappa Kookout and actively supports Petersburg National Pan-Hellenic Council, of which the Alpha Phi Chapter is a member.

Community Service
Brother Robinson, our Keeper of the Exchequer, aggressively leads all of the Chapter community services to include Adopt-A-Mile and Red Cross community activities. The Chapter actively supports the Fort Lee Garrison Command and the historic city of Petersburg by adopting the final mile between Petersburg and Fort lee as our Adopt A Mile community service.

For the Salvation Army, the Chapter’s volunteers time for bell ringing for charitable contributions to the Salvation Army. As a part of Guide Right program, Brother Robinson coaches a Christian Youth League basketball team encouraging children to play using Christian values (e.g., teamwork, trust and respect).

During our annual Achievement and Awards Banquet, the Chapter awards academic scholarships to five (5) deserving graduating seniors in the amount of $500.00 each. Academic Scholarships were awarded to four (4) male students of the graduating class of 2008 from Dinwiddie High School - William B. Croom Scholarship Award; Matoaca High School - the Bennie Terry Scholarship Award; Prince George High School- the James A. Smith Scholarship Award; and Petersburg High School are presented with the Palmer Merritt Scholarship Award. We recently were able to add Hopewell High School.

The Chapter also supports our Grand Chapter’s St. Jude Initiative and have honored Brother Gene Page, who passed to Chapter Invisible, by donating proceeds on his behalf to be forever engraved on the St. Jude Centennial Plaque. We also plan on supporting this initiative more by hosting a Sunday of Hope.

Lastly, the Chapter is honored to have Brother Calvin Lee, Sr., Past Chapter Polemarch serve as the President of the Petersburg National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. This organization also participates in several community activities, of which, an Adopt-A-Play event which provided for free entry into the 2008 Mainstage Theater Series presentation of Sycamore Rouge. Greeks, who wore paraphernalia and donated perishable items, were given free access to the play.
