Chapter Goals and Objectives
The objectives of the Fort Lee (VA) Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Incorporated are the same as those in Article II of The Constitution and The Statutes. In support of those objectives the Chapter has established the following goals:
-
To conform to all Executive Orders issued by the Grand Polemarch, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
The Chapter conforms and strongly advocates all of the Executive Orders issued by the Grand Polemarch. The Chapter holds nine (9) formal meetings on each 3rd Saturday of the month. During each meeting, the Executive Order referencing our non-tolerance of hazing is read and shared to all Brothers present.
-
To improve FLAC’s Guide Right program through a partnership with area public school programs.
The Chapter supports the two primary Guide Right activities. Brother Robinson, Chapter Guide Right Committee Chair, coaches a Christian Youth League basketball team that the Chapter supports by attending their games and sponsor the team’s achievement and awards banquet at the end of the season. The Chapter also supports Richmond’s Student Athlete Association’s High School College Combine. Brother Shedrick McCall, past Chapter Vice Polemarch, spearheaded the event of 80+ high school seniors competing and receiving high school scholarship offers on the spot.
-
To develop a mentorship and professional development program for the Chapter’s Military Personnel. This includes active members as well as Brothers visiting Fort Lee to complete military schools.
The Chapter mentors and provides professional develop for the Chapter’s military personnel, by embracing and receiving active and visiting Brothers. The Chapter also mails care packets to deployed soldiers (Brother Keith Brown, Jr., Brother Lloyd Clarke, Brother Boris Hall and Brother John Mosby).
-
To develop a partnership/working relationship with the Petersburg (VA) and Richmond (VA) Alumni Chapters to synchronize event calendars and benchmarking for information exchange.
The Chapter has shared our planning calendar for the Fraternal Year to both Chapter Polemarchs. Chapter officers have attended the Petersburg (VA) Alumni Chapter meeting and have supported events (Thanksgiving Football Bowl, VSU Homecoming Tri-City Kappa Kookout and informal gatherings at Buffalo Wild Wings and Chicago Uno’s) hosted by both Alumni Chapters. FLAC also attended a meeting on the critical issues (poverty, older citizens, youth in foster care, etc.) in social services for the City of Petersburg, hosted by the PAC. The guest speaker was Kimberly D. Willis, Director of Social Services for the City of Petersburg. Lastly, the PAC and FLAC have tentatively planned at Dad and Young Men’s Visit to IHQ in the summer.
-
To strengthen the FLAC’s Reclamation, Recruitment, and Retention Program to increase Chapter membership and expand the pool of resources to complete our mission.
The Chapter has an active list of Brothers with whom we have called, emailed and have written letters inviting them back to the bond. We have recruited Brothers who are now Chapter officers (Brother John Mosby, Brother Rudolph Robinson and Brother Darnell Dixon), reclaimed one Brother (Brother Patrick Bingham and Brother Michael Cooper). As a result of our military affiliation, Brother Olu Baker and Brother Evans who are temporarily stationed at Fort Lee, have also become financial Brothers of the Chapter.
-
To improve upon the current Community Service Program by soliciting business sponsorship and partners in community service.
The Chapter continues to support the Fort Lee Garrison Command and the historic city of Petersburg by adopting the final mile as our Adopt A Mile community service (highway clean-up community service).
-
To solicit media coverage for key calendar events.
As a requirement, before and after each Chapter event, the Chapter Historian provides the local newspaper, our Province Webmaster and Fraternal Journal (Oct 2008 edition, p. 225). We also provide an update of events to our Regional Representative and share all of our events with the Petersburg and Richmond Alumni Chapters as well as the Petersburg National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. for widest dissemination of all our public activities.
-
Effectively and efficiently communicate to membership utilizing technology enhancements available to produce a Chapter website and newsletter
The Chapter also has established its website, www.FortLeeKappas.org that also provides our calendar of the events for the Fraternal Year. The site is also posted on the Province Webpage for widest dissemination of all our activities.
